Ruth Morton, 86
Ruth Baker Morton, 86, of Newport, formerly of Powell County, widow of Gene Morton, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009. She was born April 21, 1923 to the late James and Edna Combs Baker. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Stutzenberger of Alexandria, a granddaughter, Beth (Michael) Zachery of Fort Thomas, a grandson Eric (Lindsey) Stutzenberger of Oregon, two great-grandchildren Branon and Sarah Zachary, one brother Roger (Bettye) Baker, two sisters Virginia Boyd and Betty (Victor) Gentry all of Stanton. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Laura Stutzenberger.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at the Bowen First Church of God with Rev. Larry Mullins officiating. Pallbearers were Eric Stutzenberger, Michael Zachary, Sherwin and Sheldon Baker, Eddie Baker and Larry Epperson. Arrangements were handled by Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Seldon Morton, 69
Seldon Eugene (Bojim) Morton, 69 of Stanton, died Aug. 28, 2009 after a long illness. He was the husband of Minnie L. (Sexton) Morton. He was the son of the late Alvin (Munk) Morton and Eula (Williams) Morton. Seldon was born on Feb. 29, 1940. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Morton, and two sisters, Stella Mae Morton and Patty Morton; as well as three neices, Barbara Sue Morton, Brenda Jean Gay and Jenny Lynn (Morton) Baker; and two nephews, Floyd Shelton, Jr. and Richard Welch.
He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Shelton of Ottway, Ohio and Dorthy (and James) Gay of Winchester; a sister-in-law, Stanley Morton of Stanton; three brothers, Ray Morton, Cas Morton, both of Stanton, and Elmer (and Eileen) Morton of Fairborn, Ohio; nieces, Teresa (Dwight) McPherson of Frenchburg, Debbie McVey of Winchester, Phyllis Morton, Angie (Billy Ray) Helton, Rolanda Dunaway, all of Stanton, Carla Morton of Fairborn, Ohio; nephews, Richard Shelton of Aberdeen, Ohio, Greg Shelton of Ottway, Ohio, Jason Morton of Fairborn, Ohio, Larry (Leshal) Morton of Clay City, Charles Morton, Randy Morton, Tommy Morton, all of Stanton, Milburn Morton of Illinois and Johnny (Buggy) Covington of Stanton. Seldon is also survived by 12 great nieces and 13 great nephews, eight great-great nieces and four great-great nephews.
A memorial service was conducted on Aug. 31 by Bedford King at the Cane Creek Union Church. Burial was in Finch Cemetery on Highway 77-Nada Tunnel Road in Powell County.
Juanita Perry, 67
Juanita Sue Rice Perry, 67, died Saturday, Sept. 12. She was a daughter of Deward Belmont Rice and Nancy Elizabeth Rice. She was born in Powell County on Sept. 7, 1942. She was an employee of INAK for 10 years.
She is survived by a son, Tim Rice and a daughter, Angie Abbott, both of Paris; four grand children, Brittany Noel Rice, Branson Tyler Rice, Madison Sue Abbott and Chester Abbott, III, all of Paris; two sisters, Clara McCarty and Helen Morris, of Mt. Sterling; a brother, Billy Ray Rice, of Mt. Sterling; along with numerous family and friends.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals Chapel by the Rev. Kevin Thomas. Burial was in the North Middletown Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Anthony Rice, Wayne Rice, Kevin Tipton, Cole Tipton, Craig Means, Doug Morris, Kelly Leggett and Arnold Tolson, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Hon, Hoppy Haddix, Barbara Haddix, Larry Robinson and Bill McCarty.
