This past weekend, I got to spend time with my family on a fantastic weekend getaway to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. We had a wonderful time sight-seeing, shopping, and most of all, relaxing.
We started out our adventure by visiting the Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park. I definitely recommend visiting there if you’re passing through London, KY.
They have a variety of activities to choose from. You could have a peaceful picnic under the trees, watch the little ones run around on one of its many playgrounds, or take a tour of the informative Levi Jackson Museum. It was the perfect place to get our vacation started!
Shortly after finishing the museum tour, we hit the road again and reached our destination, Cumberland Falls.
We’ve been visiting the falls for 14 years now and it never gets old. It is a sight to behold seeing the rushing waters and hearing the roar of the falls! A few of us even decided to trek down the trail to the bottom of the falls where we were met by a lovely sandy, beach-like area. Talk about relaxing!
One evening we even drove out to the local marina, a definite favorite among us. I can honestly say there is no better way to spend an evening than by the lake with your family. The marina is also host to some good sized fish and ducks that you can feed. If I’m going to be honest, I spent more than enough money on food for the aquatic locals.
After we would finish our daily adventures, we’d head back to our cabin to focus on another important part of the trip, food! In my family, we tend to take our food pretty serious and this trip was no exception.
Each night we would have a delicious meal prepared. We would have fried hamburgers, hot dogs, baked potatoes, and an assortment of desserts. Any diet we did have had gone straight out the window; I know mine did!
My favorite part of the trip though was being able to gather around the table every night, surrounded by family, good food, and great conversation. It’s a soothing thought to know that even with all the worries and heartaches in the world, you can still have moments like that.
Finally, the time came for us to leave. It was sad leaving the peace of vacation behind, but I left with the hopes of doing it all again in due time.
As we all grow older and our schedules get busier, we tend to forget what really matters in life. It’s in the moments like these when we’re reminded that the most important things aren’t the clothes we wear or the cars we drive, but it’s the time we spend with those we love and care about that are truly the most meaningful. I am especially grateful that I was given the chance to spend this past weekend with those dear to me and I hope to have many more chances in the near future.
As summer draws to a close and the gentle breeze of fall enters the air, I wish you all the best in this new season.
