AmVets Operation Christmas Smile
The 12th Annual AmVets Operation Christmas Smile will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. They will have new and used toys, fruit and candy for the children in need. Kids need to be present. If you would like to donate new or gently used toys, or new or near new coats for the kids you can drop them off at the following locations: Papa’s Pizza, Andy Ryan Used Cars, Tanner Dodge, Whitaker Bank in Stanton or Clay City, Dollar General Store in Stanton or Clay City and WSKV.
If you want to donate money for the cause you can donate to an account set up at either the Clay City or Stanton location of Whitaker Bank. For more details call Glenwood at 663-0987.
Stanton Elementary Winterfest
The Stanton Elementary School will be holding their Winterfest on Friday, Dec. 4. The fun begins at 5 p.m. and the auction starts at 7:15 p.m. Come out and enjoy the fun!
All Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram retirees are invited to a brunch at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4. in the plant cafeteria. No RSVP is needed this year. All attendees should use the front parking lot and enter through the Lobby entrance. The retirees will hold their monthly meeting Tuesday, Dec. 8, 11 a.m. at the Union Hall on Bloomfield Road. The Central Kentucky Blood Center will be holding a blood drive on Dec. 8 from 12-8 p.m. at the Powell County Public Library’s Community Room. Blood donors must be 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and meet additional requirements. Sixteen year olds must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found on the center’s website at www.kybloodcenter.org. How to Establish a Drug-Free Home
The local Estill/Powell Counties Kentucky ASAP (Agency on Substance Abuse Policy) Board will be providing a series of 5 parenting classes for FREE. Leaders will use the evidence-based curriculum, Guiding Good Choices. It is geared for parents and caregivers of children ages 9-14 years of age. Classes will be held every Tuesday at the Head Start Building located on Ladonna Drive in Clay City from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Classes will take place on Dec. 8 and 15. Powell Autism Support Group Meeting
The Powell County Parents and Professionals Autism Support Group will meet Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 4-5:30 pm at the Powell County Middle School. This month Pam Dooley of the Powell County Extension Office will be showing us how to make a fun Christmas craft. This is a time for us to just relax, have some fun, and talk about the upcoming Holiday season. Hope to see you there.

Health Dept. Fees
The Powell County Health Department would like to inform the public of a rate increase for existing sewage system inspections from $25 to $75. All other on site sewage fees will remain the same. This new rate will become effective on Jan. 1, 2010.
Powell County Diabetes Support Group

Baseball Chili Dinner
The Powell County Little League would like to announce it will be having a free chili dinner from 2-4 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Clay City Municipal Building.
