Missing four year old found near Mountain Parkway
A Clay City woman is facing charges after a child left in her care ended up nearly a mile away on a busy highway, during a busy time of day. Police have charged Charlene T. Reeves with endangering the welfare of a minor.
Officers were called to search for a missing four year old around 4 p.m. last Tuesday after Reeves said her family had spent 40 minutes looking. Reeves allegedly told authorities that she had left the child unattended in the back yard of her residence as she had to go to the bathroom. Her apartment is located near Rick’s Music on Highway 15, also known as Main Street, in Clay City. Reeves was supposed to be watching the child for the child’s parents.
Reeves apparently told police that she had taken one-half of a Neurontin pill. However, police say that the medication was not prescribed for her. According to internet sources, Neurontin is used to treat seizures and also for diabetic nephropathy pain, as well as pain from shingles.
The search for the child ended rather quickly when the child was reportedly found at the Hardwick’s Creek exit near the Mountain Parkway. The child had suffered a cut on the foot and was treated by a Powell EMS crew.
The Powell County Sheriff’s Department and Stanton Police Department responded to the call. Reeves was arrested and placed in the Powell County Detention Center.
