Buford Morton, 87
Buford Morton, 87, of Kirkhaven Way, Mt. Sterling, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at his residence.Born June 20, 1924, at Rosslyn in Powell County, he was the son of the late Albert Sidney and Effie Spencer Morton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Elzie Morton, Everett Morton, Leonard Morton, Elizabeth Haddix, Lela Spencer, Mabel Morton, and Lucas Morton.
Buford is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Lorraine Fortune Morton; three sons, Danny (Debbie) Morton, James A. “Jim” Morton, Stewart (Donna) Morton, and one daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Clark, all of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Daren Morton, Matthew Morton, Brandi Shular, Ashley Mayberry, Whittney Martin, and Zachary Clark; four great grandchildren, Kayleigh Morton, Tyson Morton, Trey Mayberry, and Anna Rose Mayberry.
Other survivors include one brother, Morgan Morton of Lexington; one sister, Eva Duff of Mt. Sterling; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Morton was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, a retired carpenter, and a former owner and operator of Home Lumber Company. He was a member of the Gateway Christian Church at the time of his passing. Mr. Morton was a member of the Antioch Christian Church from 1934 to 1991, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, Deacon, and Elder.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at the Antioch Christian Church with Glenn Emery and Bill Fulton officiating. Burial was in the Fortune Cemetery on Spencer Road.
Grandchildren served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Shirley McCoy, David Myers, Billy Howard Haddix, Johnny Fortune, J. D. Arrasmith, Everett McGlothin, Bernard Ewing, and Howard Fortune.

Zanna Feltner, 83
Zanna Feltner, 83, widow of Squire Feltner, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington. She was born April 18, 1928 in Hazard to the late Charlie and Lula Johnson Hoskins. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Oscar Feltner, South Gate, Michigan, Donnie Feltner, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Danny Feltner, Stanton; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Williams, Banner, Kentucky and Wilma Burke, Jeffersonville; sister, Zola Ashley, Hamilton, Ohio and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Glenna Williams, and brother, Remine Hoskins.
Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery, Stanton with Oscar Feltner, Donnie Feltner, Danny Feltner, Dave Tackett, Charles Vince Williams, and Johnathon Feltner serving as pallbearers. www.wellsfh.com
Jack Flippo, 71
Jack Flippo, 71, of Clay City passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at the Lee County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Beattyville. He was a retired foundry worker.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Flippo of Winchester. Two sons, Joey Flippo and Toddy Flippo both of Winchester. Five brothers, Joesph Flippo of Jackson, Michigan, Paul Flippo of Jackson, Michigan, James Flippo of Fruit Port, Michigan, Bobby Flippo of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Richard Flippo of Clay City.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at Grayson Funeral Home in Clay City with Bro. Herbert Barnett officiating. Burial followed in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Flippo, Joey Flippo, Charlie Townsend, Cody Booth and Nick Booth.
Leslie Newsome, Jr., 74
Leslie Newsome, Jr, 74, 23 8th Avenue, Clay City, widower of Wanda Newsome passed away Monday, Dec. 12 at his residence. He was born in Greenup County to the late Leslie and Stella Newsome. He was a Marine Veteran and retired Pepsi Company employee.
He is survived by his sons Rickie and wife, Myrtle Newsome and Rodney and wife Polly Newsome, daughters Carol June and husband, Earl Gillum and Jewell Ann and husband, Danny Chrislip, brothers Harold, Glenn, and Donald Newsome, sisters Merita Zimpter, and Barbara Ann Rowe, and 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Edith Lyons Thacker, and grandchildren, Ricky Newsome and Mitchell Frazier.
Services Wednesday, Dec. 14 at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton. Burial in Resthaven Cemetery, Stanton with Billy Newsome, Scotty Newsome, Okie Frazier, Jay Means, Jeremy Banks, Fred Wells, Ben Bishop, and Aaron Martin serving as pallbearers.
Linda L. Willoughby, 69
Linda Louise Willoughby, 69, of Stanton, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington. She was a native of Powell County and a daughter of the late Nicholas and Margaret Curtis Snowden.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Toodie Snowden and by one sister, Mertie Marie Faulkner.
Surviving relatives are her former spouse, Raymond Willoughby; five sons: Gary (Kimberly Hatton) Willoughby and Darrell (Mary Watkins) Willoughby of Stanton, Rick “Birddog” (Lisa) Willoughby and Johnny (April) Willoughby of Clay City, and Douglas Willoughby of Manchester; one daughter, Beverly (Michael) Charvella of Batavia, NY; 10 grandchildren: Cody Ray Willoughby, Felicia Willoughby, Jessica Leigh Hatton, Stephanie Beth Hatton, D. J. Willoughby, Stachia Dawn Shelton, Natasha Willoughby, Courtney Willoughby, Haleigh Willoughby and Keely Willoughby and three great grandchildren: Kylie Hubble, Bryson Ford and Gracie Rae Nolan.
Funeral services were officiated by Rev. Larry Shoemaker and held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011 at Hearne Funeral Home Chapel, Stanton. Burial was in the Vaughns Mill Cemetery, Clay City with Jamie Crawford, Howard Smith, Curtis Ross, David Curtis, Jimmy Abney and Linville Bellamy serving as pallbearers.
