Superintendent welcomes students back
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year!
The foundation of any successful school system is a positive parent-teacher-student approach. It is this approach that binds all stakeholders together for a common goal—the success of our students. Only through the “team efforts” of all school personnel can our students acquire the tools needed to become successful members of society. It is the goal of the Powell County School system to provide these tools for such success.
Teachers and staff have been diligently preparing for the upcoming year: attending conferences, cleaning classrooms, updating kitchen areas, and preparing our buses for our first day with students on Aug. 10.
The district has developed a new website for our staff, students and community to access and learn all about our district and events taking place. Also for the parent who still likes to have a paper version of school information our district has developed a paper calendar with district information that will be sent home with your child at the beginning of the school year.
Also, on this calendar you will see art work from students all across our district. It is our hope that whatever means you decide to use to acquire information that we are there to serve our community with questions they might have.
The Board of Education and the staff of the Powell County Schools would like to also take this opportunity to “thank” all parents and community members for their past support and encourage each of you to continue with this team approach for educating our children.
Our District mission is to “prepare students as life-long learners who are self-sufficient, responsible and productive members of our community”. This mission can only be accomplished if everyone involved works for this common goal.
To the students as they return to classes on Aug. 10, I encourage each of you to push for excellence in every facet of your life. As opportunities present themselves I urge you to accept responsibility and to pursue your interests. The school system is here to serve you, the children of Powell County, and our wish is that each of you will graduate with the tools necessary to pursue whatever your life goals may be.
To the parents and caregivers of our children, I urge you to provide the support and nurturing environment that exemplifies the values of education. I encourage you to become part of the educational community by visiting our schools, attending meetings, becoming active in the SBDM process, joining school organizations such as PTA, PTO, boosters, or attending our extracurricular activities. It is only through these partnerships that we guarantee success for all.
