Fannie Elizabeth Baker, 79, 1515 South Marshall Road, Middletown, Ohio died Wednesday, July 14, 2010. She was born Dec. 1, 1930 to the late Ike and Elizabeth Baker.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Powell, Bradenton, Fla.; brother, Ernest Baker, Slade; sister, Nellie Wills, Middletown, Ohio; grandchildren, Seann, Amanda, and Bill.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton by Rev. Anthony Molihan with burial in Resthaven Cemetery, Stanton.
Harley Mize Wells, 81
Harley Mize Wells, 81, of 1936 Snow Creek Road, Clay City, died Wednesday night, July 14, 2010 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester. Born in Clay City, KY he was a son of the late Melvin and Dolly Green Barnett Wells. Harley was a life long truck driver and a proud member of Vaughns Mill First Church of God. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Buford Wells and Virgil Wells and by six sisters: Eunice McKinney, Lydia Oliver, Inez Williams, Virginia B. Begley, Ruby Baber and Katherine Clark. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine “Dude” Crowe Wells; two daughters: Sherry (Bob) Hicks of Clay City and Shell (Jesse) Shepherd of Irvine; one sister: Emma Yargar of Independence, and by two grandsons: Ross Hicks and Jesse Ray Shepherd, Jr. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Ted Linkous, Bro. Eugene Hampton and Bro. David Creech were held at 3 P.M. Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Clay City First Church of God, 4236 Main Street, Clay City.
Interment was in the Kennon Cemetery with Ross Hicks, Jerry Wells, Sammy Wells, Gary Yarger, Charles Begley and Ricky Miller serving as his active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Heardine Wells, Ray Parker, Billy Puckett, Charles Noble, Jap Snowden, Gene Profitt, Bruce Crowe, Freddy Smith, Dane Miller, Charles Goodwin, Donnie Rogers, Phillip Shearer, Henry Jones, Sterlin Pelfrey, Bro. Alene Helton Pitts, 72, 1418 Pecks Creek Road, wife of Harlan Pitts, died Saturday, July 17. She was born May 23, 1938 in Powell County to the late Shirley and Mila Fugate Helton.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan Pitts, Stanton; sons, Danny Pitts, Clay City and David Pitts, Stanton; daughters, Patty Anderson and Linda Pitts, both of Stanton, and Brenda Pitts, Jeffersonville; brother, Ray Helton, Stanton; sister, Shirley Ann Nickell, Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Tigger.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Terry Pitts.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton by Rev. Paul Day with burial in Pitts Cemetery, Pecks Creek Road, Stanton

Peggy Townsend Strange, 93, widow of Leonard Strange, of Strange Hollow Road, Clay City, died July 16, 2010 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester. Born in Harlan County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Polly Stewart Townsend. She was a homemaker who attended the Vaughns Mill First Church of God. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by four sons, Garrett, James, Clendon and Harrison Strange and by one daughter, Margaret Strange. Surviving relatives are four sons: Doris “Dixie” Strange, Melvin (Betty) Strange, Truman Strange and Jerry Strange all of Clay City; four daughters¨ Janice (Roger) Centers and Helen (Melvin) Brewer both of Clay City, Louise (Emory) Hobbs of Stanton, and Judy (Stanley) Combs of Jeffersonville; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Ted Linkous were held at 11 A.M. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Vaughns Mill First Church of God, Hardwicks Creek Road, Clay City.
