Story Time at the Powell County Public Library is every Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 years. We will read stories, do crafts and sometimes a movie.
Holy Week Services
The Powell County Ministerial Association will be holding Holy Week Services March 29-April 4. The evening services that will be held nightly begin at 7 p.m. at the following churches: Wednesday, March 31, at Bowen Church of God with Rev. James Combs; Thursday, April 1, at Emmanuel Baptist with Rev. Troy Luttrell; Friday, April 2, at Stanton First Church of God with Rev. Johnny Hurt. Sunrise Services will be held on Easter Sunday, April 4, at the Stanton Cemetery with David Rule and at Natural Bridge with Troy Luttrell.
Diabetic Cooking School
The Powell County Extension Office and the Powell County Health Department will be offering free diabetes classes on Thursday, April 1 at 6 p.m. and Thursday, April 8 at 6 p.m. at the Powell County Extension Office. Different topics will be covered each night such as carbohydrate counting, meals plans and eating out. Participants will have the opportunity to sample healthy recipes. Financial Peace Classes
The same program initiated by Dave Ramsey, Financial Peace, will be held at the Powell County Library on Thursdays, from April 8-June 24, 12 consecutive weeks, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There is no cost for residents of Powell, Estill, Madison or Clark counties and this is being sponsored by Foothills CAP. The Bowen Elementary Family Resource Center will be hosting “Kinder-Camp”, which is a Pre-Kindergarten Transition Camp for incoming (’10-’11) Bowen Elementary Kindergarten students. The six-week program will meet in April and May on Wednesday’s from 9-10:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. The program is limited to the first 20 students who register and currently live in the Bowen School District.

Ladies Auxiliary of AMVETS Post 67 Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt and Cook-out will be held on Saturday, April 3. It will begin with a cook-out/bake sale at 11 a.m. with all proceeds going toward the Ladies Auxiliary Local Scholarship Fund. Easter Egg Hunt will start at 1 p.m. for ages up to 12 years old. The Census Bureau will be having free employment testing on Saturday, April 3 at the Powell County Extension Office in Stanton beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 5 p.m. The Census Bureau offers good pay, flexible hours and paid training. Foothills Yard Sale
The Foothills Community Action Partnership located at 70 Seventh Street in Clay City will be having a Yard Sale on April 1-3. But we are in need of donations to sale. We are accepting donations the whole month of March. Any questions please call 663-2659.
Boonesboro Lioness Auction
The 21st Annual Boonesboro Lioness Auction to benefit Hospice East, which serves both Clark and Powell counties, will be held on Friday, April 9. The bake sale will run from 4-6 p.m., with the auction beginning at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served. It is all happening at the St. Agatha Gymnasium at 254 South Main Street in Winchester and it is open to the public. PCHS 5 Year Reunion
Powell County High School 5-Year General Class Reunion will be held Saturday, May 29, at the Powell County High School beginning at 12 noon. This reunion is for every student who has attended PCHS. A lunch menu is planned and the cost is $10 per person. There will also be a silent auction with all proceeds going to fund the scholarships given annually to seniors. An advance head count is required for the lunch so please send in your lunch reservation along with your payment no later than May 1 to Powell County High Alumni Assoc., P.O. Time’s Running Out
Attention Powell County Residents: Time is running out to apply for jobs as census takers in Powell County. If you are interested in earning $10.75 an hour, plus 50 cents per mile, apply today. Applicants will go door to door to visit homes that do not return the census questionnaire. You can work up to 40 hours per week and will work close to home, often in your own neighborhood. Most of the work would be done in the evenings and on weekends when most people are at home. The jobs will last from 5 to 10 weeks. Call 1-866-861-2010.
The Powell County DAV Chapter #103 has changed their meeting dates from the third Tuesday of each month to the second Thursday at 6 p.m.
Friends of PC Pets Meetings
Friends of Powell County’s Pets hold their monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month at the Clay City Elementary School. For more information call 606-424-4100. If the school is closed the group meets at Hood’s Pizza in Stanton.
Diabetes Support Group
Kentucky River Foothills Rural Health Network is sponsoring a Diabetes Support Class. Classes will meet every second Thursday of the month. Classes meet at the Powell Adult Day Care (behind Foothills Mobile Clinic) in Clay City from 4-5 p.m. For more info, please call Tena at 663-9011

Ladies Spring Fling
The 6th Annual County-Wide Ladies’ Spring Fling will be held on Thursday, April 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the Stanton Christian Church Gym.
This year’s theme is Little Miracles with speaker and Christian author Jan Watson. There will be specail music and praise singing. There will also be a rawing for free gift baskets, a free autographed signed book by the author and a Willowtree “Miracle” figurine giveaway. Door prizes, favors and good food; child care and supper provided for babies up to third grade.
