Story Time at the Powell County Public Library is every Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 years. We will read stories, do crafts and sometimes a movie.
Autism Support Group Meeting
The Powell County Parents and Professionals Autism Support Group will meet Monday, Sept. 13 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Powell County Middle School. Shelli Deskins Ph D. and Director of Highlands Center for Autism will be sharing the July 2008 opening of Kentucky’s first private education center for children with autism located in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Dr. Deskins will be demonstrating student success through before and after videos showing use of ABA therapy and one to one staffing.

The Tharp/Thorpe family reunion will be Sunday, Sept. 5 at the Stanton Lions Club Park. The doors will be open at 11 a.m. with dinner at 1 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and drinks for your family. We hope to see all our family and friends come out for a good time.
Little Miss/Mister Pageant
The 2010 Little Miss/Mister Powell County Pageant will be held at the AmVets Post in Clay City on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. You must be preregistered. Call 663-5073 for more information.

The Powell County DAV Chapter #103 has changed their meeting dates from the third Tuesday of each month to the second Thursday at 6 p.m.

The 6th Annual reunion of “Old Friends” from Torrent, Zachariah, Leeco, Standing Rock, Little Sinking, Fixer and Zoe will be held Sept. 11 at Torrent First Church of God at 12 p.m. Anyone with a connection to any of these communities is invited to attend. Lunch will be potluck so bring a covered dish, drinks and tableware will be provided. If you want to bring an item for the “silent auction” it will be appreciated. Spencer Cousins Reunion
The descendants and friends of Calvin and Mary Ann Stewart Spencer will be having their annual family reunion on Friday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept. 4. The reunion will be held at the Clay City Municipal Building in downtown Clay City. The annual family reunion for the descendants of James Mullins of Powell County, will be on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Shelterhouse #1 at Natural Bridge State Park, Slade. McCoy Reunion will be Saturday, Sept. 25 at Brookside Cottages off of Railroad Street in Stanton. Come at Noon, eat at 1 p.m.; bring a covered dish. Drinks and utensils will be furnished.

The Clay City Elementary Site Base Council will have regular meetings on the second Thursday of every month at 4:30 p.m.

The Powell County Middle School Site Base Council will have regular meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m.
Quit Smoking Classes
The next Cooper/Clayton smoking cessation class will begin on Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. The class will be held at the Powell County Extension Office.
To register for the class you need to go to the Health Department at 376 North Main Street in Stanton.
There will be a one time $50 charge for the nicotine replacement products. The $50 is due at the time of registration. The $50 will pay for your patches gum or lozenges for the duration of the program. This is a 13-week class that will meet every Wednesday. If you complete the program the $50 will be refunded at the end of the program. You must be present at the classes to get your nicotine replacement products for the next week. The last day to register for the class will be Sept. 7. This session will be limited to the first 20 paid participants.
Friends of PC Pets Meetings
Friends of Powell County’s Pets hold their monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month at the Clay City Elementary School. For more information call 606-424-4100. If the school is closed the group meets at Hood’s Pizza in Stanton.

Financial Peace Classes
The Stanton Christian Church and Foothills will be hosting Financial Peace Classes using the Dave Ramsey videos and materials. The classes are free for residents of Powell, Estill, Madison and Clark counties and will be taught by Bill Arrowood. The classes will be held on Thursday’s for 12 weeks running from Sept. 28 through Dec. 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Stanton Christian Church.
