Story Time at the Powell County Public Library is every Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 years. We will read stories, do crafts and sometimes a movie.
Soccer League Sign Ups
The Powell County Youth Soccer League will be holding sign-ups for the Spring League on Feb. 13 and Feb. 20 from 2-4 p.m. at the Clay City Dairy Queen. For more information call Doug at (606) 524-1209.
The Powell County Little League Baseball will start accepting sign-ups at the Stanton Elementary during Little League basketball for ages 5-12. That will be on Feb. 11 from 6-8 p.m. and Feb. 13 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The league’s public monthly meeting will be held on Feb. 16 at the Senior Citizens Building in Stanton at 7 p.m. followed by a coaches meeting. Anyone who was involved in 2009 or fist time volunteer are invited to attend.
The league will be holding a cornhole tournament at the Clay City Municipal Building on Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. You can sign up for that at Charles Satellite on Main Street in Clay City from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. The Powell County DAV Chapter #103 has changed their meeting dates from the third Tuesday of each month to the second Thursday at 6 p.m.
Friends of PC Pets Meetings
Friends of Powell County’s Pets hold their monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month at the Clay City Elementary School. For more information call 606-424-4100. If the school is closed the group meets at Hood’s Pizza in Stanton.
Powell County Diabetes Support Group
Kentucky River Foothills Rural Health Network is sponsoring a Diabetes Support Class. Classes will meet every second Thursday of the month. Classes meet at the Powell Adult Day Care (behind Foothills Mobile Clinic) in Clay City from 4-5 p.m. For more info, please call Tena at 663-9011
Smoking Cessation Classes
The next Cooper/Clayton smoking cessation class will begin on Mar. 3 at 6 p.m.. The class will be held at the Powell County Extension Office. To register for the class you need to go to the Health Department at 376 North Main Street in Stanton. There will be a one time $50 charge for the nicotine replacement products. The $50 is due at the time of registration. The $50 will pay for your patches gum or lozenges for the duration of the program. This is a 13-week class that will meet every Wednesday. If you complete the program the $50 will be refunded at the end of the program. You must be present at the classes to get your nicotine replacement products for the next week. The last day to register for the class will be Mar 2. This session will be limited to the first 20 paid participants.
