Epperson First Church of God is hosting a White Elephant Sale & Chili Supper on Saturday, Nov. 1. The chili is FREE and begins at 5 p.m.. many nice items will be up for auction at 6p.m. This is a Women’s Group fundraiser. Everyone welcome!

House of Deliverance Revival

The  Clay City Church of Christ, located at 5719 Main Street in Clay City  will be holding a  Gospel Meeting Nov. 2-6 with Dan Murphy as the speaker. The service on Sunday, Nov. 2 with Bible Study at 10 a.m., Morning Worship at 112 a.m. and Evening Service at 6 p.m. The Monday through Thursday services will begin at 7 p.m.

Stanton First Church of God Turkey Dinner and Auction
A Turkey Dinner and Auction will be held at Stanton First Church of God, 980 East College Avenue, on Friday, November 7, 2014 beginning with a $5 Turkey Dinner at 5 p.m.  The auction will begin at 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall with lots of items suitable for Christmas shopping and decorating.  Wood crafts, home canned green beans, jam cakes, and candies will be available.

The West Bend First Church of God will be hosting their 1st Annual Benefit Car Show on Saturday, Aug. 30. Red River Historical Society Meeting
The Red River Historical Society will meet Thursday, Aug. 21 qt 6 p.m. at the museum. There will be a potluck dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a business meeting. Everyone is welcomed to attend.

Benefit Cruise-in for Mike Horn
There will be a benefit cruise-in for Mike Horn on Friday, August 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Citizen’s Guaranty Bank parking lot, in Irvine.   Mike Horn was recovering from a serious heart attack when he was severely burned.  Regina Robertson with the bank is setting up a fund for those who would like to donate to help Mike and his wife Lana as he recovers.  Several businesses are participating, and items have been donated for an auction.  For further information, contact Jimmy Miller by calling 606-975-6317, or call Jimmy’s Tire and Lube Center at 606-663-9411.

Yoga Class
There will be a Yoga class at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Clay City Municipal building, The cost is $7 per class or $50 for a 10 class card.  Beginning in August there will be a Tuesday and Thursday night class.  Bring your own yoga mat, a beach towel and a bottle of water.

Little Miss/Mister Powell County Pageant
2014 Little Miss/Mister Powell County Pageant is to be held at the AmVets Post 67 in Clay City on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. to register call April at 663-8996 or 606-481-1635.

Battle of Richmond Civil War Reenactment
The annual Battle of Richmond Civil War reenactment will be held on Sat. Aug. 23 and Sun., Aug. 24 at Battlefield Park at Pleasant View, located at 1546 Battlefield Memorial Highway (Hwy. 421). Run the Rugged Red
The Rugged Red Trail Half Marathon, the inaugural race, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6. It is 13 miles of running in the beautiful Red River Gorge. It’s a chance to enjoy a sport you love, in an awesome location surrounded by beauty and a chance to win some cash prizes or just run for the fun of it! The following is a list of upcoming food handler classes: August 21, and September 18, 2014.  All classes will be at 1p.m. at the Powell County Extension Office.  Please check you food handler card expiration date and schedule a class before that date.

Genealogy Help Desk
The Red River Historical Society and Museum located at 4541 Main Street in Clay City has opened a Genealogy Help Desk. It will be staffed by members of the historical society and members of the Red River Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). If you are researching your Eastern Kentucky roots we hope we can be of some help to you. The hours are 2 to 5 p.m. each Sunday at the museum.
“Fastest Kid in Town” & 5K Run/Walk
The Powell County Cross Country team will be holding their 5K Run/Walk and their “Fastest Kid In Town” race on Saturday, Sept. 6. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at the Stanton City Park at 11:30 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female and the top three male and female participants in each age group in the 5K, while prizes will be given to each participant in the “Fastest Kid In Town” race. Entry fees are: Individual $15 or $20 on race day; Students $5 or $10 on race day; Teachers $10 or $15 on race day; and School Team (8 or more) $50 or $60 on race day.  For more information contact Julie Clark at 606-663-3300.
